How to Use EVA Floats?

Created on 05.27
EVA floats are highly sensitive fishing tackle accessories widely used in freshwater and saltwater fishing. They are favored by anglers due to their lightweight material, high buoyancy, and strong water resistance. Correct use of EVA floats can not only improve the accuracy of signal detection but also significantly increase the catch rate.
I. Core Advantages of EVA Floats
* High Buoyancy and Low Density: EVA material itself has a low density, providing strong buoyancy, suitable for long-distance casting with heavy sinkers or bomb hooks.
* No Water Ingress and Deformation: High-quality EVA floats use a dense nanostructure and waterproof sealing ring design, preventing water ingress even after prolonged immersion, ensuring stable buoyancy.
* Day and Night Dual-Use Design: Some models support the insertion of glow sticks or built-in electronic lights, making them visible during the day and at night, adaptable to various fishing environments.
* Sensitive and Clear Signals: Low center of gravity and streamlined body allow for quick standing after entering the water; even a slight bite can trigger a noticeable action, such as a sudden nibble, a rise, or a diagonal pull.

II. Correct Installation and Adjustment of EVA Floats
Assembling the Line Assemblies
Thread the main line through the following sequence: "buffer stopper – external hook (for securing the float) – another feed stopper." The feed stoppers restrict the float's movement along the main line.
Snap the external hook into the perforated part of the EVA float, ensuring a secure connection.
Adjusting the Float: High Adjustment, Low Fishing
A common setting is "adjust to 4 marks, fish at 2 marks," meaning that with the hook empty and half-submerged, adjust the float so that 4 marks are visible above the water. After baiting, pull down the leader so that 2 marks are visible above the water, increasing sensitivity.
If the current is strong or the waves are high, adjust to "level down, fish low" to increase stability.
Matching the Lead Weight
The float's lead weight must match the weight of the fishing rig to ensure smooth casting and stable standing. Too light a float makes long casts difficult, while too heavy a float affects signal transmission.
Check the float's condition
Before each fishing trip, check the float for damage, water ingress, or deformation. Replace it immediately if any damage is found to avoid misjudging fish activity due to buoyancy imbalance.
III. Usage Techniques in Different Scenarios
Scenario & Usage Suggestions
* Still Water Fishing (Ponds, Lakes): Use a slender EVA float for high sensitivity, suitable for catching lightly biting crucian carp.
* Flowing Water Fishing (Rivers, Tidal Zones): Use a large-bodied or Awa float for strong wave resistance and good stability.
* Night Fishing: Choose a model that can accommodate a glow stick or has an electronic light for easy observation of float signals.
* Fishing for Silver Carp/Bighead Carp: Use a dedicated rig with a high-buoyancy EVA float module, combined with bottom fishing techniques for efficient baiting and catching.
